To My About Page!
I am so incredibly grateful that you are here and want to say hello!
I look forward to connecting with you in the near future, as I am always eager to meet new individuals.
"If it doesn't challenge you,
It doesn't change you."
So to get started,
Welcome. My name is LaCara.
I am a fur mom, wife, nurse, author, coach, micro-influencer, and many other things (depending on who you ask). However, I most strongly identify as the mom of an angel (Kailani Mary). I am also an author, a coach, and the founder of the Raising Resilience Movement.
My life, like so many others, has been a series of ups and downs with a ton of transformation. I am talking physical, mental, spiritual and emotional. I’ve gone through and continue to evolve and transform.
I’ve been faced with various life challenges and gained much insight and experience into the inner and outer struggles that women go through day-to-day. It was through these challenges and adversities that I was inspired to develop and begin my journey as a course creator and transformation coach. Allow me to dive in a bit more…
My Background & Story
In 2014, I graduated from the University of Victoria with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. From the beginning, I always knew that helping people was what I was meant to do. However, throughout my nursing career, I had always felt a little bit lost and was always trying to find my place.
I pushed myself to build a career in healthcare, as this was an area many of my family members had pursued and it was considered an acceptable career choice. However, it wasn’t what I truly wanted to do. Even though I knew deep down that it wasn’t for me, I continued to spend a significant amount of my time and resources into obtaining speciality certifications, diplomas and even and Master’s degree.
Within my first five years, I went from frontline nurse, to supervisor, to manager. All in pursuit of my life’s purpose and passion. I was keen and eager to find that something that fuelled my soul.
It wasn’t until 2018 that I came to discover why I felt so unfulfilled. I had been living the dream that others had created for me. It was shortly after this realization that I decided that it was time for a change.
I knew that I could take my passion for helping others and apply it in a way that was impactful and fulfilling. However, I wasn’t entirely sure how I was going to make that kind of impact. It wasn’t until I had opened my mind and heart to the unknown world of entrepreneurship that I found my answer.
To be honest, entrepreneurship was absolutely terrifying!! It took a while to figure out how I could best help others.
I explored affiliate marketing, social media marketing, social media management, influencer positions, the works. And for some you may say, wow this woman fails at a a lot of things! However for me, each part of the journey was bringing me one step closer to what it was I was looking for – course creation and coaching.
In all honesty, the entrepreneur journey was not easy. It remains to be a challenge and presents a wide range of learning opportunities. Though it has also been one of the most rewarding experiences that has allowed me the space to truly get to know myself.
Then during a 3 day personal development course with Todd Campbell, I had an epiphany of what I was going to create. That is when the idea presented of creating the Raising Resilience Movement and I felt that internal flame and excitement for life reignite.
What is Resilience?
Resilience is the ability of an individual to harness their inner strength and sharpen their mental reservoir during times of hardship. It is our resilience that allows us to overcome, adapt, and carry the weight that life adversities and hardships present.
Resilience does not eliminate life’s challenges, though provides us with the capacity to leverage our inner strength to work through, grow, and push forward following these situations. The growth of our resilience is something that allows one to not only survive, though thrive, in some of the most unbearable experiences of our lives.
Over the years I have battled, watched loved ones struggle, and felt completely helpless in some of the challenges I have faced.
However, through self-discovery, experience and ongoing learning, I have grown my capacity and ability to rise up and face anything that comes my way. I’ve experienced:
- Emotionally Abusive Relationships
- Substance Misuse
- Depression and Suicidal Ideation
- Financial Instability
- Eating Disorders
- Pregnancy and Infant Loss
- Childhood trauma
- Identity Crisis and Transformation
Over time, I changed my approach to these challenges and began to embrace them instead of resisting them. By taking this approach, I found that I was so much more powerful and capable than I could have ever imagined. Not only that, I discovered what it was that would fuel my soul and created the Raising Resilience Movement.
I discovered that when individuals are provided with the support, guidance and resources needed to raise resilience, the possibilities can become endless.
